Leggings are something we rely on once winter arrives, but since they touch the skin directly, texture and comfort are things worth choosing carefully. In particular, we often hear concerns about winter innerwear—"it's warm, but it makes my skin itchy" or "the tightness bothers me."

At ZUTTO, we've created many innerwear items that touch the skin directly. Among them, our top series made with SUPER100’s wool has been popular since its launch, with customers saying, "It's wool, but it doesn't feel prickly at all." Believing that this fabric could also work comfortably for leggings, which sit even closer to the skin, we've added leggings to the lineup this year.

SUPER100’s — Fine fibers that gently wrap the skin

Wool tends to bring to mind an itchy, prickly feeling, but SUPER100’s overturns that impression. Its fibers are extremely fine, so you barely notice any irritation when it touches your skin—it has a softness almost like wearing air.

The secret to this low irritation lies in the fineness of the wool fibers. SUPER100’s is an international standard indicating the fineness of wool fibers: the higher the number, the finer, softer, and higher quality the fiber becomes.

Human hair: approx. 70–100 microns
Ordinary wool clothing: approx. 21–24 microns
SUPER100’s: approx. 18.5–19 microns

As shown above, SUPER100’s fibers are less than a third the thickness of human hair—finer even than ordinary wool. Because such fine fibers offer less resistance and bend naturally when they touch the skin, even those with sensitive skin tend not to feel much irritation, resulting in a soft touch. These fine fibers also hold air softly, making the fabric light and warm—a quality perfectly suited to winter innerwear.

These leggings also use a jersey (fleece) knit. This gives them excellent stretch, allowing them to flex smoothly with your body's movements for a comfortable, stress-free fit that never feels constricting. Despite being wool, they're washable and can be hand-washed, so you can use them without worry—another key point.

What I love about this fabric is how incredibly soft and stretchy it is, which is why I chose it for the innerwear material. Another appeal is that it's 100% wool with no synthetic fibers mixed in. With fabrics that are synthetic with just a bit of cotton blended in, your skin can dry out and become itchy, but since this is 100% natural fiber, it's less likely to cause itchiness, and it allows for natural temperature regulation—qualities that are unique to this material.

Following the body's shape without constricting it. A careful approach to silhouette

With the leggings ZUTTO makes, we cared not only about comfort but also about how they look, striving for a perfect balance between ease and fit. Those with a slender build can enjoy a relaxed, gentle sense of airiness, while those with a fuller build can wear them without feeling constricted.

By setting the hem seam position higher, we've added a visual effect that makes calves look slimmer and the area below the knee appear longer. Our goal was innerwear that does more than just keep you warm—it also lifts your mood.

On a staff member of 163cm, the hem falls with a slight loose drape. When wearing them as outerwear, it's also stylish to let them bunch up a little at the ankle.

The designer's recommended points!

We aimed for a fit that isn't tight like tights, without any feeling of constriction. I myself am not fond of tight leggings and prefer loose, relaxed clothing for loungewear and pajamas—but it's surprisingly hard to find leggings that let you relax without looking sloppy. These leggings offer a soft feel and just the right amount of fit, making them a piece you can wear stylishly as outerwear, and also use during relaxing time at home.

Care Instructions

Although it's wool, this material can be hand-washed at home. We asked the designer about care as well.

Since it's 100% wool, there's a risk of shrinkage, so I basically hand-wash and wear mine with care. That said, these leggings are designed with a longer inseam, so honestly, even if they shrink a bit, I don't think it would be noticeable. Some shrinkage is unavoidable, but if you do use a washing machine, be sure to use a laundry net and set the machine to a gentle mode.
