Kvadrat's Ready Made Curtain, quick and easy to install

Kvadrat's Ready Made Curtain is a DIY curtain set consisting of three parts: a rail (cord), fabric, and clips. It's a kit where you attach the dedicated clips to the fabric and hang them on the cord to set it up. Unlike curtains you assemble yourself by selecting and gathering materials, this set carries the refined simplicity of Kvadrat, whose fabrics are used as upholstery by leading furniture makers around the world. Among Japanese designers, the maker has also collaborated with Minä Perhonen's designer Akira Minagawa to release fabrics.

◉Delightful features of the Ready Made Curtain

1. You can freely choose colors that suit your room's interior, enjoying the process of creating your own look.

2. The fabric can be cut with dressmaking scissors, and since it resists fraying, you can use it with raw-cut edges.

3. Curtains you've had to replace with every move now have the potential to be reused in a new space.

4. It can also be used for purposes other than curtains. 

◉Introducing the parts and how to choose them for the Kvadrat curtain

Basically, you assemble the set by choosing the three parts ① through ③.

①Curtain fabric・・・Measuring 2 by 3m, usable either vertically or horizontally, with the sheer look of a lace curtain. The material is lightweight polypropylene, available in 5 colors. You can match it to the color of the other parts, or enjoy it as an accent color.

②Hanging mechanism・・・The part that functions as the curtain rail. It includes 2 square wooden parts and 2 handles, 1 cord (4.5m), 2 screws (6cm), and 2 mounting brackets.

③Pegs・・・Includes 20 pieces of hooks for hanging one piece of curtain fabric.

④Center support(optional)・・・This is used when you want to use a width of 2m or more, or when using the curtain as a pair opening from the center. Please purchase as needed. It's an item that prevents the middle from sagging once a certain length is reached, even if tension is added to the cord from both sides.

◉How to find the backing (studs)

Inside the wall, there is backing (studs) at set intervals. You need to locate them and drive the screws (hardware) there. 

※If you live in a detached house, you can check using your home's blueprints.

・Cannot be installed if the window faces a corner.

・Walls without backing 

・Plasterboard (drywall) walls

※Dedicated stud-finding tools are also available at home centers and DIY shops. Please check the product's handling and usage carefully, and use it to check for the presence of backing.

◉Other items you'll need

・A drill and a 6mm drill bit, a pencil
・A Phillips screwdriver
・A step stool
・Scissors
・Dressmaking scissors (for cutting the curtain fabric)

※If you're skilled at DIY (handmade projects) or have construction skills, installation should be no problem, but those who are particular about precision may want to refrain.

◉How to install the Kvadrat curtain

[General installation flow]

1. Fix the hanging mechanism to the wall or ceiling and stretch the rope.

2. Decide on the curtain's size, cut it, and attach the pegs.

3. Attach the curtain with the pegs onto the rope.

1-5 Assemble the hanging mechanism and thread the cord through.

6 Measure and decide on the position where you'll insert the screws to fix the hanging mechanism.

7 Once you've decided on the position, drill a hole and fix the mounting bracket with a screw. A 6cm-long screw goes into the wall, so if you live in a rental property, please check your rental terms carefully.

8-9 Fit the hanging mechanism over the mounting bracket. This fixes the hanging mechanism to the wall.
10. Install the other side the same way, and thread the cord through there as well.

11-12. Turn the handle attached to the hanging mechanism to pull the cord taut.

13-18
Mark with a pencil where the pegs will be attached to the curtain fabric. Using the included template, attaching them at 5cm intervals will result in a beautifully draped finish. Following the marks, cover and clamp the curtain fabric onto the protruding part of the pegs to attach it. This creates holes in the fabric, and the fabric is held securely in place by the pegs.

19. Hang the curtain by hooking the pegs onto the cord you've installed on the wall.
20. If the rope sags, turn the handle of the hanging mechanism to make the rope taut.
21-22. Cut the excess rope, leaving about 5cm. Tuck the remaining portion into the hanging mechanism.
23. Once you've checked the length of the curtain, cut it if necessary. Leaving a length of about 15 to 20cm below the window frame will help prevent light from coming in through the gap.
24-25. Complete!

For customers purchasing before installation, laser cutting and sewing options are available for an additional fee. Laser cutting prevents the threads from fraying over time. Delivery takes about 1 month. The shipping fee for both cutting and sewing is 5,000 yen (+tax) per curtain, combined. If you'd like to request this service, please contact Customer Support.

◉What happens when you reuse the holes from a curtain rail...

Our staff tried seeing if it was possible to install the curtain by reusing the holes from an existing curtain rail. By removing the curtain rail with a screwdriver and reusing those holes, we were able to install it without drilling new holes. However, this may be difficult depending on your particular setup, so please check the conditions in your own home.

This can be installed anywhere there's a wall or ceiling, not just a window, so it can be used as a substitute for a door, as a room divider, or even like a noren (traditional Japanese fabric divider). You can use your existing curtain rail to hang your favorite fabric in your own style, or you can purchase just the parts and hang your favorite fabric on them.
