I imagine most people have already experienced firsthand just how durable jeans can be, but I still remember being shocked to hear about one of the very first fast-fashion jeans splitting at the seat.

Looking back on all that, I've become more careful about how I choose jeans now, and the pair that caught my eye and that I'd like to introduce here is the Texas Jeans.

These are jeans made in America by a long-established factory founded in 1976, one that remains committed to American manufacturing. As the times have come full circle and brought renewed attention to jeans like these, I think what caught my eye was a certain nostalgic quality that echoed that memorable first pair of mine. From what I've heard, sewing jeans requires knowledge and skill quite different from other garments, and it's a highly specialized craft passed down through experience. Their history apparently began as workwear for miners in the American West. Now jeans are a staple of casual wear, loved as everyday clothing by people all over the world, yet even well-known specialty brands have shifted production to countries like China and Vietnam, making brand-new, American-made jeans an increasingly rare find.

Texas Jeans is a jeans maker founded in 1976, and while most brands have shifted production to Asia, it remains a rare factory still committed to manufacturing in America. Without much fanfare, it has kept supplying honest, reasonably priced jeans to the people who need them—a small, locally rooted maker. Here, we'd like to introduce this sincere and steadfast brand, Texas Jeans.

The Dedication of a Long-Established Factory

Since jeans were once worn by cowboys, they're tough enough for straddling a bicycle or motorcycle even today, and the brass rivets have long been designed without any protruding edges, so as not to scratch a saddle.

The stitching uses a triple-needle technique with three rows of stitches on the painter pants, and a double-needle "felled seam" method on the slim-tapered style. This technique was commonly used in workwear from the 1940s through the 1970s: the fabric edges are folded over and stitched together, making the seams extremely strong and resistant to fraying—a level of craftsmanship that should put to rest any worries after hearing stories of fast-fashion jeans tearing apart.

This is a denim fabric with an American-made stone-wash finish, something rare to find these days. In Japan, heavier denim fabrics are sometimes regarded as the higher-end choice, but this fabric is light and soft to wear—a wonderful trait when you think about wearing it, washing it, and even bringing it along on trips thanks to its versatility. This soft finish makes me think back to the history of jeans, wondering if it was originally devised for the comfort of cowboys riding horses in boots, and other working people who wore them.
