KLIPPAN's chenille cotton blankets have a soft, gentle texture that's quite different from towel fabric. The fluffy, plush fabric practically begs you to press your cheek against it, and it settles smoothly onto the skin.

The secret to this irresistibly soft touch lies in the yarn itself.

A chenille cotton yarn—made by wrapping short, fluffy fibers around a central thread like a pipe cleaner (shown in the photo below)—creates this remarkably soft texture. Chenille blankets are woven using this chenille cotton yarn as the warp, paired with ordinary thin cotton yarn as the weft, resulting in a wonderfully smooth finish.

The chenille blankets are made from organic cotton. Organic cotton refers to cotton grown on farmland that has been free of pesticides and chemical fertilizers for three years. KLIPPAN uses organic cotton certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), the global benchmark for organic textiles. Since this organic cotton places no burden on the environment and leaves no chemical fertilizer residue, you can choose it with confidence as a gift as well—for occasions like celebrating a new baby.

Since its founding in 1879, KLIPPAN has continued to produce high-quality products by handling every step in-house—from spinning and weaving to dyeing and manufacturing—using techniques passed down through the generations. For the chenille cotton blankets, two master ink craftsmen dye the cotton yarn using their own specialized technique, and the fabric is woven on ten jacquard looms.

After that, the fabric goes through washing, drying, piping, and various other processes before a single blanket is finally complete.

The largest option at 140×180cm, the Single size is generously sized enough to use as bedding.

Since chenille cotton feels wonderful against the skin, you can drape it directly over yourself as a towel blanket in summer, or lay it over a down comforter in colder months—not only does it help keep the comforter in place, but it also adds extra warmth. Bengt Lindberg, the designer behind KLIPPAN's designs, grew up in Småland, a region of Sweden especially rich in nature. He loves Sweden, and has said in the past that he wants to express Sweden through its traditions and the animals unique to the land.

As Bengt feels, nature and animals are a very familiar presence in Sweden. This may be due to the explosive joy felt when spring arrives after a long, harsh winter, as well as the culture and national character shaped by the country's guarantee that everyone has the right to go into the mountains to pick berries and enjoy camping.

KLIPPAN's chenille cotton blankets become softer with use and are resistant to fuzzing and losing their shape.

Left: Brand new Right: Used for two and a half years

The one on the left is brand new, while the one on the right has been used for about two and a half years for a child, washed regularly. There is almost no fading, and the fluffy softness has increased, becoming even gentler as it conforms to the skin.

Regular machine washing

Being able to machine wash the whole blanket is a wonderful point. Since the fabric has no loops, there's nothing to snag, and unlike a towel blanket, there's no worry about threads coming loose the more you wash it. It maintains its soft texture even without using fabric softener.
