How to use the Kurashiki Canvas multi case for different occasions. Its slim profile, which slips into any gap in your bag, is part of its appeal.

You don't need it every day, but on days when you're heading to the hospital, or on payday when you need to record transactions and make transfers at the bank, or any time you have to carry more cards than usual—how do you manage all of that? Today we're introducing the Kurashiki Canvas multi case. As the name suggests, it's a slim case that can be used for a variety of purposes, and its appeal lies in how easy it is to carry around.

The truth is, card cases have become essential in today's world

With the rise of cashless payments, wallets have gotten smaller, and many people probably find themselves puzzling over how to carry their cards. A typical wallet might hold only the credit card you use regularly, your driver's license, health insurance card, and a cash card for your main bank. That's usually enough for everyday needs, but when it comes to cards or bankbooks you only carry occasionally, hospital patient cards, medication notebooks, or various cards and mini notebook-sized items of different sizes, it turns out there aren't many containers that fit the bill perfectly.

We hear from ZUTTO customers too: "I bought a card case, but the business-card-sized ones are hard to pull out of my bag quickly when I need them, while the large-capacity ones take up too much room in my shoulder bag." Or, "I only want to carry items I truly love in my bag, but it's hard to justify spending money on something with only one use, like a card case or a bankbook case."

For items you only carry occasionally, what's convenient is something that supports a variety of uses while remaining thin enough to slip neatly into any gap in your bag.

What is the Kurashiki Canvas multi case?

This bi-fold multi case is a slim case with pockets on the inside. On the left side are three pockets sized just right for cards, and on the right side is a pocket for a bankbook, a mini-sized notebook, a passport, or tickets. Behind each of these pockets are additional pockets, adding up to six pockets in total: three card-sized, one bankbook-sized, and two vertically long pockets. There's also a pen holder, which comes in handy for jotting down quick notes.

We'll introduce its many practical uses a bit later, but another major feature of this case is that "you can enjoy the way it ages every time you pick it up." Both the regimental-striped canvas surface, similar to what you often see on neckties, and the navy lining are made from high-quality Kurashiki canvas. After about a week of use, the fabric gradually softens and becomes more supple. Meanwhile, the thin beige nume leather on the inside gradually changes to an amber color as it's exposed to light and handled, transforming into a vintage piece unique to you. The distinctive rough texture of the canvas and the leather pockets that grow more endearing over time make this a durable item you'll want to use for years to come.

How to use the multi case, by occasion

We hope you'll use the multi case in all kinds of situations. Here are a few examples of how to use it for different occasions.

① Today is payday. As a card case and bankbook case for when you record transactions at the bank

On payday, you go to the bank, record your transactions, withdraw the cash you need, and transfer the rest to your payment account... On days like this, the multi case comes in handy as both a card case and a bankbook case. It holds three cards, and your bankbook fits into the main pocket, with room for even more in the larger pocket in the back if needed. If you tuck cash in an envelope between the folds of the multi case and fasten the button, you can carry it in your bag without the envelope getting bent or creased. (Note: it cannot be stored inside the pockets.)

② Taking the day off to go to the hospital. Never forget your patient card or medication notebook.

The multi case is also convenient as an essential item for hospital visits. Of course, you can slip in your patient cards one by one, just like the cash cards mentioned earlier, but if you want to carry a whole stack of cards at once, here's a handy customization. In this example, the necessary patient cards are gathered inside a MUJI clear card case, and the back cover is simply slipped into the right-side pocket, customizing the multi case to suit the purpose.

On the right side, you can fit a smaller medication notebook, along with receipts or prescriptions from the hospital folded to size. Medication notebook sizes seem to vary by region, but even a larger one should fit in the pocket on the back side.

This medication notebook measures 11cm wide by 15.5cm tall, which just barely avoids interfering with the cards. Of course, the case can still be closed in this state. (Though if you also insert a pen into the pen holder, it becomes a bit harder to fasten.)

③ As a travel passport case

It can also be used as a passport case when traveling. If your passport has an embedded IC chip, it will feel a little tight at first when you put it into the right pocket, but the leather gradually stretches and softens. It won't fall out easily, so you can use it with peace of mind. It's also handy for carrying plane tickets, museum tickets, and guides or maps you pick up during your travels, all together in one place. Instead of letting these items get crumpled up loose in your bag, you can simply tuck them into the passport case. It's also convenient because you can slip in a pen—essential for filling out carry-on baggage cards on a plane, or for having someone sketch you a map if you get lost. The slim design that doesn't take up much space in your bag is another nice point.

④ For this time of year, as a spare case for masks

These days it's hot and you sweat a lot, so it's common to need to change your mask while out and about. It also works well as a carrying case for disposable masks. When you carry masks around, they tend to get mixed up with other items and end up crumpled, so being able to keep them neatly stored is a nice point.

マルチケース

There's about a 3cm gap between the left and right leather panels, so it's fine for items in pockets ①–③ and ⑤⑥ to stick out by about 1–1.5cm.

Beyond that, you could use it to hold a maternal and child health handbook, or as a case for managing household finances—please feel free to find your own multi-purpose way of using it. The unisex, easy-to-use design somehow gives you a crisp, focused feeling. Since a card or passbook case isn't something you replace often, choosing one that shows its aging process clearly will bring greater satisfaction. Above all, because this is a "quality item" made with Japanese Kurashiki canvas, it's best to choose one you love and use it for a long time, just as you would choose a wallet.
