 KOHCHOSAI KOSUGA
            KOHCHOSAI KOSUGA
As we welcome the new year, "New Year's decorations" adorn home entrances and interiors. Beyond adding seasonal flair as interior decor, these decorations have long held deep significance in Japan as a vital symbol for welcoming the Toshigami (God of the New Year) into the home and seeking their protection. Carefully selecting and displaying these decorations embodies the wish, "May this year be safe, abundant, and peaceful," taking shape through the space of one's home.
Bamboo and Red-and-White Mizuhiki
Kochosai Kosuga's New Year decorations combine bamboo with mizuhiki ornaments. Bamboo has long been believed to ward off evil spirits, while the red-and-white mizuhiki symbolizes "celebration" "gratitude," and "the bond of happiness." They embody the wish for enduring connections with family, ancestors, and the New Year deity, creating auspicious decorations characteristic of Kōchōsai Kosuga. Additionally, all designs feature rice ears, symbolizing the wish for abundant food.
We offer three designs in different sizes, so please choose one that fits your display space.
▽Wako Mizuhiki Wreath L
Features a design woven with thin, glossy bamboo strips—similar to those used for bamboo basket bases—radiating outward. The shadows created when light hits it are beautiful, and it offers different expressions depending on where it's displayed.
▽Greetings Spring Mizuhiki Wreath
A wreath crafted by bundling bamboo strips into a ring, adorned with abundant rice ears and mizuhiki. This is the shortest of the three designs, making it easy to display anywhere.
▽ New Year Celebration Wreath
A design featuring long, gracefully cascading mizuhiki ribbons. Though the simplest in construction, it possesses a presence that anchors any space.
All are lightweight and easy to handle due to their bamboo construction. They can be easily mounted on walls using thin pins. Furthermore, as decorations that blend seamlessly into any space, Japanese or Western, they also make delightful year-end gifts.
Bamboo is an Eco-Friendly Material
Bamboo has long been part of Japanese life, forming a close connection with the people. It transforms into various forms like chopsticks and baskets, seamlessly integrating into daily living.
Bamboo grows remarkably fast, sometimes reaching 1 meter in a single night, symbolizing vitality and health. Within 4 to 5 years, it matures sufficiently for use in products. Since it requires no pesticides, it's environmentally friendly. It's gaining attention as an eco-friendly material, often used as a substitute for wood.
Kochosai Kosuga was founded in 1898 in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. Deeply understanding bamboo's historical significance in daily life and culture, the company creates bamboo products that enrich living. It continues crafting bamboo items as tools for 21st-century living. Its products are also suppliers to the Imperial Household Agency and have won numerous awards at world expositions.
As times change, so do people's needs. Yet Kōchōsai Kosuga's products possess a charm that makes you want to treasure and use them carefully. This is because the company approaches craftsmanship without forgetting timeless values and sensibilities that transcend eras.
