【Made to order】Catchless Earrings Diamond GRACE GEMMA (Yellow Gold)

Whether at formal occasions like weddings, entrance ceremonies, or graduation ceremonies, or on an everyday outing, a diamond glinting subtly at your ear will bring out even more of your charm. These earrings, set with the finest quality Belgian diamonds, are made to be worn and cherished for years to come—perhaps even passed down to a daughter someday.

Baqless: an integrated catch design that dramatically reduces the risk of loss

Earrings can broadly be divided into two types: stud earrings and hook earrings. Stud earrings work by securing the post—the part that passes through the ear—with a catch (fastener). Until now, it was taken for granted that the earring body and the catch were separate pieces. Baqless overturned that very concept.

These are the Baqless earrings themselves.

That's right—there's only a post, with no catch attached.

What makes this so groundbreaking is that the tip of the post itself changes angle into a T-shape, transforming into a back catch. That's why it's called "integrated catch" or "catchless."

Because the post and catch are integrated into one, there's no more worry of the catch coming loose and losing the earring, as could happen with conventional designs. And once you actually start using them, you realize that not having a catch feels surprisingly liberating. Perhaps, without even noticing it, we'd grown used to the quiet stress of fumbling with a tiny catch piece each time we put on or took off our earrings, worried we might drop and lose it.

Baqless was developed by a French jewelry designer. Having spent many years designing and crafting jewelry for women, he repeatedly encountered what he came to see as a common frustration among women: the inconvenience of putting on and taking off earrings.

The solution he arrived at was a groundbreaking T-shaped structure in which the post itself transforms into the catch. To build a mass-production system capable of achieving such precise construction, he partnered with RONDA, a Swiss watch movement factory. RONDA is the factory that produces Switzerland's smallest quartz (battery-powered) movements, manufacturing the extremely fine, tiny parts—such as gears and coils—used in movements, and boasting exceptional precision in assembly.

At first glance, the T-shaped structure of Baqless may look simple, but rather than the entire tip of the post bending, it works through a rotating axis mechanism. And since it's something worn on the ear, it can't have any protrusions, and the materials used have also been chosen with safety carefully in mind.

Why we're introducing diamond earrings

At ZUTTO, we've previously introduced Baqless earrings featuring Swarovski crystals and pearls. As masks became an everyday necessity, larger earrings that tend to get in the way when putting on or taking off a mask saw less use—but Baqless earrings gained a new advantage, too: even if they catch on a mask, they're unlikely to fall off, offering peace of mind. They remain just as popular as ever.

This time, we've decided to begin offering diamond earrings as a made-to-order item as well. Our reason: they embody the very materials and design ingenuity needed to fulfill the wish to "keep using something forever."

A material built to last a lifetime

Diamond is the hardest natural mineral, a stone resistant to scratches from friction and abrasion. It's also highly resistant to change from chemicals or light exposure, and is said not to deteriorate over time. As long as it isn't struck with a hammer or otherwise broken, it retains its shape and beauty indefinitely—which is why it's called a "once-in-a-lifetime" treasure.

The "Zutto" of catchless structure

Baqless's catchless structure delivers "relief from the stress of possibly dropping the piercing when putting it on or taking it off," "no feeling of tightness while wearing it," and "freedom from the worry of it coming loose and getting lost while worn."

In short, we believed that being "easy to wear and hard to lose" would lead to something that people could actually keep using for a long time.

After a year of ZUTTO staff wearing Baqless earrings themselves and genuinely feeling "these really are good," we decided to introduce these higher-priced diamond earrings.

They're not something you can easily reach for, but once you have them, they're an item that supports the feeling of wanting to treasure them while still wearing them and enjoying them every day.

The "4C" that evaluate diamond quality

Baqless sources its diamonds from a dealer in Antwerp, Belgium. Belgium is the country that established the polishing technique of "polishing diamonds with diamonds," and as a result, it has long been known as an industry hub where high-quality diamonds gather.

After the stones are sourced in Belgium, they are cut and polished in Paris, then set at Baqless's own factory in Thailand.

Let's look at how Baqless's diamonds rate according to the "4C" standard used to evaluate diamond quality.

・Carat (weight): We offer two options per ear, "0.28 carat" and "0.38 carat".

・Clarity: SI1/SI2

This is a grade where impurities are difficult to detect with the naked eye. Generally, diamonds of SI1 grade or higher can be enjoyed without their brilliance being diminished.

・Color: H

This is a near-colorless grade, ranked 5th from the top among 23 total levels. It's said that the color difference is so subtle it can only be discerned when compared side by side with higher-grade stones.

・Cut (brilliance): Very good

Out of a 5-level rating scale, this is the second-highest grade. The cut is applied to maximize brilliance based on the diamond's original shape and clarity.

With "GRACE," the item we originally carried, the polishing method used is Round Brilliant Cut (the classic 57-facet cut). This is the major diamond shape that everyone thinks of when they hear "diamond"—a round center cut, with facets radiating outward from the middle.

GRACE is a diamond earring set with a three-prong setting, and you can choose the base metal from white gold or yellow gold.

The post material is surgical stainless steel, the same type used in medical instruments like scalpels and syringes, chosen because it's less likely to trigger metal allergy reactions.

The timing of when someone acquires a diamond varies from person to person.
