It's been several years now since ZUTTO began making original parkas. To our great delight, they've been well received every year, with customers telling us things like "I'm so happy—there aren't many parkas out there that adults can wear in a clean, put-together way!" So this year, we've made another parka.
These days, as people increasingly want to dress in more comfortable clothing, our in-house designers discussed the idea and decided to try something new: "Let's carry on the design of the dolman sleeve parkas we've offered so far, but tweak the shape a bit and update it into a parka that can be worn comfortably across a longer stretch of the year."
The "wearability" we had in mind this time comes down to:
1. Being casual in just the right way for adults to wear
2. Updating the fabric so it can be worn regardless of season
These two points.
We believe that for an item to remain a long-lasting staple, it needs comfortable wear, a silhouette that looks good even as your body changes over time, and practical usability. Hooded parkas are already a casual wardrobe staple, but we think this original Cotton Heavy-Weight Brushed-Back Dolman Parka has come together as a parka that adults can wear stylishly, too.

Planning staff"This is a Cotton Heavy-Weight Brushed-Back Dolman Parka with a moderately upright hood and a clean, streamlined design. Its defining feature is the minimal seam allowances, which let the fabric gently follow the body's curves, creating a relaxed, grown-up look. The body is formed from one large piece of fabric, so unlike a typical parka, there are no shoulder seams or armhole seams. This feature, carried over unchanged from the previous design, has been incorporated into the new version as well. Thanks to this, there are fewer seam allowances touching the body, giving it a smooth feel to wear—even where the sleeves and hem meet the ribbing, there's no bunching or bulk."
"We've used the dolman sleeve design that was so well received last time. It's by no means an unconventional design. The shoulder area is roomy, yet clean and seamless, while the sleeves are smart without feeling loose or bulky. It really reaffirms for me how, precisely because this is a casual item, small adjustments to the sense of size can make a big difference to the overall impression. This time, because we used a fabric with a particularly nice drape, we made fine pattern adjustments suited to the material so it wouldn't lean too far toward looking overly relaxed."
"We also gave it clean, streamlined pockets—pockets that deliver on both convenience and design."
ZUTTO designer"I'm happy we get to introduce an original parka again this year. Last time's parka used a brushed-back fabric that was fluffy on both sides, but for this one, we chose a fabric that's a bit unusual for a parka in that it conveys a solid sense of quality. We selected a fabric with a feel and comfort that can be enjoyed year-round, except in the height of summer."
"The outer surface has a dry touch, but it's soft rather than stiff, with a distinctive texture. It's a solid color, but the thick yarn gives the knit a clear texture and expression, lending it a certain casual impression. The inside has a texture reminiscent of towel-fabric loops, giving it both a rough, cozy feel and softness at the same time—it's a fabric that combines character with ease of wear."
"With a name like 'heavy-weight brushed-back,' you might expect a heavy parka, but it's actually a medium-weight brushed fabric rather than something that feels weighty on the body. It has just the right thickness so it won't feel too hot even as the weather gradually warms up. I think it's come together as a quality parka with a casual ease that lets you keep it hanging in your wardrobe, ready to grab and throw on comfortably regardless of the season. "
This Cotton Heavy-Weight Brushed-Back Dolman Parka has a slightly longer length with a relaxed feel to wear. Neither perfectly fitted nor oversized, it pairs beautifully with both skirts and pants.
After all, when it comes to wearing a parka, it's not usually for occasions where you need to stand up straight and look sharp, but rather for more relaxed moments—getting around by car, unwinding at a café, or heading out to eat with kids or pets in tow—situations where you don't have to worry too much about how you look.
Feeling constricted is out of the question, so many people deliberately buy a larger size, or opt for men's sizes, in search of a roomier parka. But length ends up being the sticking point. A larger size may make the shoulders and sleeves loose and comfortable, but it also makes the garment longer, leaving you with excess fabric—and as a result, the overall silhouette can end up looking somewhat dowdy.
With a fabric that now has a softer drape, the piece falls into a clean, relaxed silhouette. Wear it as a light outer layer in spring and autumn, or simply throw it on when you're relaxing at home.
We've prepared two colors: KINARI and CHARCOAL. Both are classic, dependable shades that blend naturally with whatever you pair them with, no matter the outfit.
