Another hot summer is approaching this year. While hats and parasols help with the sweltering heat outdoors, there's another thing worth preparing for: air-conditioned indoor spaces.

Even on your daily commute, you might walk under the blazing sun from home to the station, step into a train that's chilled almost too cold, walk under the sun again to the office, and then feel a blast of cool air once you're inside—moving back and forth between spaces with big temperature differences. At home, you can adjust the air conditioning to your liking, but in public places, offices, or cafés, that's not an option. You end up thinking, "It's cold, but I'll just bear with it." Have you ever found yourself feeling that way indoors?

This temperature difference can contribute to summer fatigue and a general feeling of sluggishness in the body. To minimize the effect on your body as much as possible, it's said that the key is not letting yourself get too cold in air-conditioned spaces. Today we're introducing a ZUTTO original cardigan that's perfect for exactly this kind of summer air-conditioning defense.

Convenient and Packable

A layer for fending off air conditioning is something you never know exactly when you'll need—whether at the office or a café while out and about—so you want to be able to pull it out the moment you need it, which means carrying it with you at all times. That's why, in designing this cardigan, we placed great importance on "ease of carrying."

A thin stole or a lightweight spring cardigan can also serve as air-conditioning protection, but even if you fold it neatly and put it in your bag, it can end up tangled with your other belongings as you take things in and out. To avoid that, this cardigan comes with a packable design.

With the "packable" garments often found in outdoor wear, there's usually a set way to fold them, and if you don't fold them just right, they won't pack away neatly. This cardigan, however, has no fixed folding method—just fold it loosely and flip the storage pocket on the inside of the left front panel, and that's it. There's no worry about losing an attached pouch, either. Since this is something you'll likely be putting on and taking off many times throughout the day, we designed it to be as stress-free as possible.

A Smooth, Breezy Feel That's Welcome in Summer

We chose a strongly twisted jersey knit made from 100% Supima cotton. As the name suggests, this fabric uses tightly twisted yarn, and the surface of the yarn is singed with gas to the utmost degree, creating a distinctive texture that feels smooth and breezy—perfect for the sweaty days of summer. The fabric is knitted as a single-ply jersey using 50-count yarn, which is relatively fine for T-shirt materials. Single-ply yarn tends to twist (or skew) more easily in the wash compared to two-ply yarn, but that tendency is actually a defining characteristic of this fabric.

Because the fabric is slightly skewed from the start, it adds a distinctive character to the elegant texture and beautiful drape.

The fabric is also very thin and light, so even though this is a long-sleeve cardigan, you can wear it comfortably and coolly during the hot season, and it also works well as sun protection outdoors.

We also sold a packable cardigan last year, but this year we've made the design even easier to pair with any outfit, so it can be worn as a layer in any scene.

While the design is basically simple, we intentionally left the collar-to-front-edge panel with a raw, cut edge finish, creating a beautiful drape. The result is a piece with a simple silhouette but just enough of an accent to give it a grown-up feel.

The length falls right around the hip, skillfully covering the body's shape, and pairs easily whether you're wearing a skirt or pants. We also made the body width generously roomy, so it's easy to put on and take off even on days when you're wearing something with a larger silhouette.

We also offer a clothing alteration service.

Until now, whenever a customer's beloved item broke, we've worked with the maker as much as possible to establish a repair process. However, when it comes to clothing, we hadn't yet reached the point of offering a ZUTTO-original service. That said, now that we've set up an in-house atelier for making clothes, we're able to offer "clothing alterations and repairs," and have decided to launch this as a paid service for our customers.

"I'd like the hem of the skirt I bought shortened by 3cm."

"There's a hole in my knit sweater—could you mend it for me?"

"I'd like the hem of my denim pants taken up while preserving the aging on the hem."

We accept requests like these for mending and altering clothing. Of course, we welcome items purchased from ZUTTO, but we'll also do our best to accept items purchased elsewhere.
