【ZUTTO New Arrival】An easy-to-wear skirt for the long season ahead—the secret behind our stretch corduroy.

Now that we're deep into the harshest cold of winter, and you've likely already gathered all the warmth-focused pieces you need, a new corduroy skirt has arrived—one you can wear across a long stretch of the season.

The key points of this skirt are its 【material】 and the 【large tuck at the center front】. We'll take a closer look at the material later in this article.

The tuck was designed as a detail to keep the look from becoming too simple. Since we want you to wear this skirt every day, we've given it a relaxed width so it's easy to put on—but by adding this tuck, we were able to control the overall volume and design the skirt so its silhouette falls beautifully.

We intentionally made the waistband a bit wider, so it looks cute even when you tuck a top in. It keeps the relaxed feel from being too strong, letting the waistband function as a design element in its own right.

The back hem features a deep slit, creating both ease of movement and a relaxed, effortless feel. It moves well when you walk, and adds movement to the silhouette when viewed from behind. Dark-toned skirts can easily look flat, but this touch of movement gives the skirt a silhouette that spreads out just the right amount.

Staff Roundtable Discussion — Talking About Corduroy Material

First, what kind of image comes to mind when you think of corduroy? Here's what the ZUTTO staff had to say.

"The fluffy nap and the ridges feel autumn-and-winter-like, and I think that's cute."

"After wearing it for a while, I get a bit bothered by how the nap becomes rough and matted. It's also thick, so it doesn't dry easily in winter."

"Since it doesn't have any stretch, it can be a little hard to move in."

Some staff members seemed to find corduroy a bit tricky to handle, but even they agreed, in unison, "This one is great"—and the fabric they chose was "tricot corduroy."

Tricot corduroy is an exceptionally soft corduroy fabric.Simply put, it's a skirt we'd recommend to anyone who's bothered by "feeling too heavy" or who's been struggling with how to care for their corduroy.

If you look at where the tucks overlap at the waist, you can see that the fabric itself is thin—giving it a light, fluttering quality as you walk.

Actually, this tricot corduroy is somewhat different from ordinary corduroy fabric. So how exactly does it differ? We asked the staff member who chose tricot corduroy to tell us everything about what makes it so good.

Q: What was the deciding factor in choosing tricot corduroy?

"The deciding factor was the stretch. Ordinary corduroy fabric doesn't stretch, but tricot corduroy has just the right amount of stretch, making it easy to sit down or crouch."

The reason is that it's knitted. Since it's woven almost like a knit, the fabric has stretch to it.

▲Weft knitting (ordinary knit) only stretches horizontally, but warp knitting (tricot) stretches both vertically and horizontally, making it easier to move in.

Q: Doesn't the nap shed or become rough and matted?

"The fabrics that tend to have shedding issues are the ones that are pile-cut. The nap on the ridges is cut to make it fluffy, so if you pull on it, it comes out.

With ordinary corduroy, the fluffiness from the pile-cut nap is part of the appeal, but it can also make the fabric difficult to care for over the long term. The fabric used for this skirt is one that solves that problem."

Q: What about the nap getting crushed or developing a shine?

"I don't think that will be a concern! It keeps the distinctive corduroy ridges and unique napped texture, while being less prone to wear marks or crushing. It's also easy to care for—hand washing is recommended if you want to treat it with extra care, but it's fine to machine wash as well."

▲On top of that, wrinkles from washing are said to be less noticeable, and it doesn't need ironing very often.

While regular corduroy requires careful maintenance—gently brushing the nap, drying it, and applying a steam iron—tricot corduroy can be cared for just like cut-and-sew fabric, which is another appealing point for a skirt meant to be worn every day.

We've prepared two versatile colors: NAVY, which is easy to mix and match, and a deep C.GREY. Thanks to its fine wale, this is a versatile design that also pairs beautifully with patterned or brightly colored knits, as well as voluminous knits. This tricot corduroy skirt makes up for what has always been difficult about corduroy. We hope you'll enjoy wearing it for a long time to come.
