When you think of a T-shirt, the color that likely comes to mind first is white. White T-shirts have become such a basic part of our wardrobes that it's no exaggeration to say every single shop carries them. And yet, even though they're so common, actually trying on several and finding one that feels truly "right" turns out to be surprisingly difficult.

ZUTTO has newly created white T-shirts in three different fabrics. At first glance, they may look like the same white T-shirt, but the differences in fabric—and a handful of small details—result in completely different wearing scenes and feels. This time, we've also adjusted the design slightly to match the character of each fabric. If you've been choosing white T-shirts somewhat casually until now, discovering your own preference here could become a useful guide for your future clothing choices.

Silk-like texture, elegant high-gauge (thin)

High-gauge refers to fabric knitted with fine, densely packed stitches. The jersey fabric we chose this time is made from very fine yarn twisted tightly, then briefly passed over a gas burner to burn off any fuzz, giving it an extremely clear surface. As a result, even though it's 100% cotton, it has taken on a silk-like feel, finishing as a mature, elegant T-shirt.

The high-gauge fabric is thin and cool, making it comfortable even during the height of summer. Its relatively compact silhouette, combined with the impression of the fabric itself, results in a piece that never looks too casual. The sides are sewn at a slight diagonal toward the back, which helps the shirt keep its shape even after repeated washing—a nice touch that keeps the silhouette beautiful for a long time.

The high-gauge is recommended for those who:

・Usually prefer wearing shirts or blouses, and find overly casual T-shirts hard to choose.

・Want to use it as an inner layer for layering.

Plain yet reliably high qualityBasic (medium weight)

The basic has the thickness typical of an everyday T-shirt, with little to worry about in terms of see-through. It has the plump, full feel unique to cotton, finishing as a piece that is plain yet reliably high in quality.

It has a moderately relaxed fit that suits any occasion. For those torn between the three options, this is the one we can confidently recommend. The collar is made from a different material—a stretchy rib fabric—giving it a casual impression and making it easy to pair simply with denim on its own.

The basic is recommended for those who:

・Want to enjoy the natural softness of cotton.

・Are looking for a plain white T-shirt that pairs easily with anything.

Durable heavyweight (thick) that resists going limp

For the heavyweight, we used a fabric knitted with yarns held together in parallel. When people hear "heavyweight," they typically picture a rough, coarse T-shirt made of USA cotton, but this one defies that image with a supple texture that even has a bit of sheen to it.

Because it's knitted using two different types of yarn with distinct textures, the front and back of the fabric have slightly different characters: the front has a sheen, while the back, which touches the skin, has a soft feel. The shoulders have a relaxed, dropped silhouette.

The heavyweight is recommended for those who:

・Are looking for a T-shirt they can wear across many seasons.

・Want something durable that resists losing its shape.

As for sizing, the silhouette becomes progressively roomier in the order of High-gauge/Thin, Basic/Medium, and Heavyweight/Thick. Each size is designed to bring out the best qualities of its fabric. The Heavyweight/Thick version also has drop shoulders, so it never feels restrictive and is easy to move in.

The sleeve length also changes along with the overall sizing. If you'd like to wear it as an inner layer under other clothes, we recommend the High-gauge/Thin, since the sleeves won't feel bulky. The Heavyweight/Thick version has longer sleeves too, so you'll find yourself reaching for it often from late spring through a good stretch of the following months.

What about see-through fabric?

The High-gauge/Thin fabric is a bit see-through, but that also makes it cooler to wear. The Basic/Medium and Heavyweight/Thick fabrics are barely see-through at all, so if you'd rather not worry about what you're wearing underneath, these two are the ones to choose.

The neckline design also changes to suit each fabric. None of the three is cut too open; if anything, all have a somewhat higher neckline, so you can choose necklaces and other items around the neck without worrying about balance. If you like a neckline that sits snugly close to the neck, we recommend the Heavyweight/Thick.
