As it gets colder even during the daytime, I feel some sort of inward-turning energy at work. Wanting to cherish time spent at home, wanting to take care of oneself. When I feel that way, I find myself wanting to choose innerwear with a smooth touch against the skin that feels utterly luxurious.

Compared to the past, more places—both at home and out and about—now have proper climate control, allowing us to stay comfortable even in the depths of winter, and highly functional down jackets have become widespread. Because of this, I feel that when choosing clothes, the focus has shifted from "heavy, bulky warmth" to "being able to regulate your body temperature and stay comfortable at all times." Wearing long-sleeved innerwear for solid warmth is fine, but on days mainly spent shopping in the city center, indoor spaces are often well air-conditioned, and sometimes it can even get too warm, leaving you sweating. Layering innerwear that works regardless of the season, and heading out in a light, functional outer layer, might just let you enjoy winter stress-free, without your shoulders getting stiff.

This time, ZUTTO's original micro modal cotton silk jersey innerwear series has arrived. There are two types: a high-neck sleeveless top that feels like a knit innerwear without any stiffness, and a padded camisole perfect for relaxing at home.

Why we chose micro modal silk

The innerwear introduced this time uses a material called micro modal cotton silk. It's a jersey fabric blending high-quality micro modal, cotton, and silk—supple, soft in texture, light, and very thin, making it well suited for innerwear. It also has an elegant sheen, so the finished innerwear doesn't end up looking too casual.

Modal itself is a type of rayon—a chemical fiber made from beech wood pulp. Even though it's a chemical fiber, modal has the wonderful characteristic of feeling and looking like silk against the skin. Because it's made from wood, it's also considered an environmentally friendly, sustainable material. Its high moisture absorption and release properties are also an advantage for innerwear—since this is something that touches the skin directly, we were particular about choosing the right material.

It's dry to the touch yet soft and smooth in texture, feeling wonderful against the skin. Its delicate quality also suits innerwear perfectly.

Choosing from two designs

The innerwear comes in two shapes: a high-neck sleeveless type and a camisole type with built-in cups. Both are shapes that can be worn regardless of season.

Micro Modal Cotton Silk Jersey High-Neck Sleeveless

A softly gathered high-neck design. It protects your neck from the sun in summer and from the cold in winter. The top edge of the high neck has a merrow-stitched finish with a slight flutter, giving it a subtle, delicate, grown-up femininity.

I think this high-neck sleeveless top is a perfect design for the coming season. Even though it's innerwear, it's designed so that "it's fine if it shows"—more than something meant to be hidden as underwear—so it's quite versatile: wear it under a shirt or hoodie in autumn, or layer it under a knit in winter. Innerwear worn in the cold season tends to be long-sleeved, and I've always been bothered by how bulky that gets under knits with narrow sleeves, so this is a very welcome design! Depending on what you pair it with, you can dress it up or down, casual or elegant, so I'm looking forward to using it.

Micro Modal Cotton Silk Jersey Padded Camisole

A padded camisole with adjustable straps that suits anybody. The neckline isn't cut too low and gently follows the body's shape. Pads can be inserted and removed from either side, and elastic at the underbust keeps it from shifting out of place. The name tag usually attached to ZUTTO's original garments has been left off this time, out of consideration for it touching the skin. A care label is still attached, but it's held on with just two stitches, so those who find it bothersome can easily remove it before wearing.

Those who dislike being squeezed by tight-fitting garments use it as an everyday essential, while even those who prefer underwear that firmly shapes the body often take off constricting innerwear indoors—to help circulation—and wear this kind of relaxed innerwear underneath their loungewear instead. It's a simple shape, but padded camisoles made by underwear manufacturers tend to retain a certain "underwear-like" feel no matter what. A fashion innerwear piece like this, which minimizes that underwear-like impression as much as possible, is also great for everyday wear.
