We're pleased to introduce this year's new addition to the semi-order skirt series, where you can choose your length, which first launched last year.

What makes clothing something you want to wear for a long time? ZUTTO is always thinking about this question as we make our clothes, and we believe that "being made from quality materials" and "fitting your own size" are essential elements. Clothes made from materials and in sizes that suit your body somehow make your heart lift when you wear them, and before long they become like a trusted companion. Our semi-order skirt project began from a wish for people to encounter a favorite piece of clothing that they'll want to treasure forever.

A skirt where even a subtle difference in length can dramatically change the impression it gives. Some people may have a sense of the exact length that suits their body type best, but it's hard to find that perfect piece. This time, our cotton skirt comes in three length options. And if you'd like an even more precisely specified length, just contact us and we'll make it to your desired measurements. Thanks to ZUTTO's unique approach of not mass-producing, unlike typical clothing brands, we're able to offer this special skirt that fits your body perfectly.

It's already been three years since ZUTTO's atelier began accepting alteration requests. From size adjustments to fixing knitwear that has come unraveled with wear, to mending a beloved dress that was accidentally torn, we've received all kinds of requests and carried out alterations accordingly. We've also had the chance to hear from customers about their feelings toward the clothes we alter, and it brings us great joy to be able to help everyone continue to love and wear their favorite pieces for even longer.

Among these alteration requests, one of the most common is for adjusting skirt length. Since a skirt's impression can change greatly depending on the wearer's height, we've come to realize that many people wish to adjust the length from the standard, ready-made size.

This skirt is carefully finished by our in-house designer and patternmaker, who sews the length according to each customer's request. At most other brands, design and alterations are handled by different people, but a key point at ZUTTO is that the designer herself finishes each piece. This means there's never a case where changing the length ends up altering the original design concept, and even detailed requests can be accommodated without compromising the design.

Furthermore, while most semi-order items generally cannot be returned once ordered, this skirt is constructed so that the length is adjusted without cutting the fabric, which means we can accept returns or length changes after you've tried it on. It can also be altered again even after you've been wearing it for a while, so you can adjust the length once more to suit changes in your taste, age, or the places you wear it—a feature not found in other skirts. Even if you've had it shortened once, it can be restored up to its maximum length of 80cm.

This skirt was made with an emphasis on being something you can pair effortlessly with everyday outfits. Precisely because the design looks simple at first glance, the quality of the fabric and the silhouette become all the more important. To achieve good balance with tops, we added tucks at the front so that a soft, flowing volume emerges naturally when worn. It's a design that brings out the best in the cotton fabric's natural texture.

A slit at the back hem allows for easy movement and a light feel even at the longer lengths. (The depth of the back slit is also adjusted to match each length.)

Cotton fabric with a dimensional texture

The fabric used this time was chosen with an emphasis on preserving cotton's distinctive texture. It's available in NATURAL and GREY.

While typical fabrics are finished with a crisp, even surface using machine-applied pressure and tension, this "Western gauze washer cotton" is dyed and sun-dried entirely by hand, without any such mechanical processing. As a result, the cotton's natural texture remains clearly on the fabric's surface, giving it a very natural, gentle impression. The subtle differences in wrinkling and color that appear even within the same fabric are part of the charm unique to handwork, offering a distinctive unevenness and warmth that machines simply can't replicate.

The soft fabric surface carries gentle wrinkles. The fine creases that naturally form as you wear it lend the cotton the look of something that's been cherished and used with care over time.

Three lengths to choose from

For the length, we offer three options—【total length 70cm / 75cm / 80cm】—which were especially popular last time. With a 15cm range, the overall impression shifts significantly, from midi to long length. If you have a favorite skirt in your closet whose length you particularly love, we recommend measuring that one and choosing accordingly. We'll also show you how the lengths compare on our 162cm-tall staff member, so please use that as a reference.

This skirt works equally well for polished or casual looks. Its billowy silhouette doesn't cling to the body's lines, so you can wear it without worrying about your figure.

On our 162cm-tall staff member, this length pairs nicely with high-cut sneakers.

Two staff members tried on and compared all three lengths.

To see how the impression changes with length, we had two staff members try on all three sizes.

First up is Staff Member F, who is 156cm tall.

At 80cm, the length hits around the ankle; at 70cm, it falls around the calf.

★Which length would she choose? 75cm

I usually go for a longer length, around 80cm, but after actually trying these on, I chose the 75cm, which looked the most streamlined on me.

The gathers at the waist create a three-dimensional silhouette that's really lovely.

I've often chosen skirts with a straight, flowing drape, but this one has the refreshing, gauze-like texture that feels both warm and cool at once, and thanks to its dimensional shape it doesn't cling to the skin—so I felt this kind of skirt is actually better for summer wear. Both the Natural and Grey colorways are calm and understated, with a simple design, so I don't think there's any outfit it wouldn't go with.

The 70cm length isn't one I would normally choose for myself, but since this skirt has such a simple, composed feel, it doesn't come across as too youthful, which makes me want to try a different length than usual.

Next, let's look at Staff Member O, who is 162cm tall.

At 80cm, the skirt completely covers the calves; at 70cm, it becomes a midi length that fully hides the knees.

★Which length would she choose? 80cm

I usually go for longer lengths when it comes to skirts, and this one felt just right. The shorter length gives a fuller, more youthful and charming impression, while the longer it gets, the more it drapes straight down for a calmer, more composed feel.

The fabric is on the slightly thicker side, so I feel confident wearing it. For the Natural colorway, I'd recommend wearing it with a petticoat. It's designed to create a soft, natural flare, giving it just the right amount of volume, and it seems like it would pair well with any top for a balanced look. It works effortlessly whether you choose sandals or heels for your morning shoe pick, but I'd also love to try a more casual look by pairing it with colorful socks and sneakers.
