India, one of the world's great textile-producing countries.
Wool weaving in particular has flourished there as a traditional craft,
with a history said to stretch back to before the Common Era.
Even today, the skills of artisans working at hand looms
remain widely preserved, and the delicate, beautiful patterns
woven into these textiles are considered to be among the finest in quality.
This time, we're picking up SADHU,
a stole brand made in India.
We'll introduce the appeal found in a textile culture deeply rooted in India.

Kashmir, a region located in the northernmost part of India.
It is an area overflowing with beautiful nature, where
the Himalayan mountains rise 4,000 to 5,000 meters high.
In the Kashmir region, weaving has taken root as a traditional craft passed down through generations,
with its techniques inherited as a family trade.
At the same time, since Kashmir borders neighboring countries,
it has also long been a region marked by ongoing conflict.
Subhabrata Sadhu
founded SADHU in order to contribute to the economy of his home country,
which faces unstable conditions due to exposure to border conflicts.
By presenting stoles made of high-quality natural fibers
at international exhibitions across Europe, the United States,
Australia, and beyond,
he conveys the excellent craftsmanship of his home country.
SADHU works with a variety of materials,
but among them, the textile known as "pashmina" is
something unique to Kashmir.
Pashmina (a word from Urdu) is known as a textile born several centuries ago,
when the soft, snow-white hair of the pashmina goat was discovered
and hand-spun into thread.
The hair of the pashmina goat has a warm,
fluffy texture that is extremely soft and delicate.
The luster unique to such fine hair is another part of its appeal.
Because only a small amount can be gathered and a great deal of effort
goes into completing it as a textile, pashmina is a rare material,
and it can be said to symbolize the weaving culture that
the Kashmir region has passed down through the generations.

At SADHU, artisans still
make each stole by hand, one at a time.
Because so much time goes into the making of each piece, it's surprising to learn
that even a plain, unpatterned stole takes three days to complete.
The stoles from SADHU reflect
a steady, honest dedication to the craft.
SADHU's process of making things begins with carefully washing the raw wool.
Once washed, the raw wool is spun by hand.
In the case of pashmina, while a human hair is about 200 microns thick,
and merino wool is 23 microns,
pashmina consists of extremely fine fibers measuring just 14 microns.
Because these fibers are spun entirely by hand, natural irregularities inevitably appear in the thread,
and it is precisely these irregularities that give rise to excellent moisture absorption and quick-drying properties.

The hand-spun thread is then dyed to match the intended pattern.
What's striking about SADHU's stoles isn't just
their texture, but also their gentle, soothing color palette.
The contrasting color combinations and border designs are
created by founder Sadhu himself,
and by weaving in ideas that reflect contemporary trends,
the products take on a modern finish.

Once dyed, the thread is woven on a hand loom.
Using a hand loom rather than a machine makes it possible to express intricate patterns,
and results in a stole with a soft texture,
all without putting stress on the thin, easily broken fibers.

When you hear "wool textile," you might imagine
something meant for the cold season, but in the case of pashmina,
it's woven so light and thin that it can be used comfortably
even in warmer weather.
SADHU's Pashmina has
a melt-in-your-hands softness.
There's no scratchy feeling at all—
it naturally conforms to the skin.
Even while using primary colors like blue, green, and red,
every design is unified by a warm-toned impression,
giving it a certain rustic charm.
Paired with: Linen One-Piece MILITARY GREEN・Small Circle Necklace
Simply wrap it around a simple outfit,
and the beautiful colors stand out, completing a coordinate where the stole takes center stage.
Naturally lovely when there's a chill in the air,
but also wonderful as the weather warms up—try pairing a pashmina stole
with a one-piece dress in place of a cardigan.
Sized so that, when unfolded, it covers all the way to the shoulders,
the warmth you feel comes from pashmina's own heat-retaining properties.
Paired with: SERGE Border Basque Knit Latte x Marine
If you're looking for something even lighter, we recommend the linen stole.
SADHU's Linen stoles use linen from the Bengal region
of eastern India.
Linen has a reputation for feeling stiff when new,
but SADHU's linen stoles are soft from the very first use,
and you can see how carefully the fine threads have been woven.
If you're new to stoles, why not start by pairing one with a classic top?
This linen stole pairs beautifully with border-pattern tops as well.
Paired with: Handbasket 003・Rosju Linen Hat Natural
This SADHU stole blends effortlessly with warm-season accessories
like hats and bags.
We invite you to experience its beautifully flowing colors
and the gentle touch of its hand-woven fabric.

SADHU stoles are made from
delicate materials, both the pashmina and the linen.
Because even a small amount of pressure can cause the threads to pull out of shape,
please keep the following points in mind when handling your stole.
・When wrapping the stole, avoid gripping it tightly or
tying it in a firm knot.
The key is to wrap it loosely, as if enveloping it in air.
・Please be careful, as wristwatches and accessories can easily catch on the fabric.
Also, when storing the stole, take care that it doesn't
come into contact with metal fittings on bags.
・If the threads become pulled out of shape, gently smooth them back
into place using a sewing needle or your fingertips.
・We recommend dry cleaning for care.
When storing, keep the stole in a well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight.
