This time, we're introducing a new linen dress from ZUTTO. Using linen fabric, which gives off a casual impression, we created a dress for adults that isn't overly relaxed. This is a feature on comfortable linen dresses you'll want to wear all summer.

The cool, crisp texture that feels so welcome when the heat becomes overwhelming, combined with a softness that gently conforms to the body, is truly one of a kind. Made from the fibers of a plant called flax, this natural fiber releases stains easily and holds up well to washing, making it well suited to everyday use. The combination of a skipper collar and raglan sleeves on this linen dress feels like something that should exist but is actually hard to come by. By adopting raglan sleeves, the shoulders move more freely, achieving a relaxed feel even with sleeves attached. In the height of summer, a thick fabric can leave you sweating, but if it's too thin, it lacks the substance needed for a proper dress. That's why we searched for a linen that grows more appealing with every wash, and selected a fabric perfectly suited for a dress. It's a 100% linen, plain-weave fabric woven domestically from French linen, with everything from dyeing to texture finishing carried out at a small factory in Kyoto. This is our 100% linen "JAPAN LINEN" fabric, with weaving, dyeing, and finishing all completed within Japan.

Based on high-quality linen fabric, this linen is finished with a gentle beating process that loosens the fibers, creating a soft, plump, washed-out texture. From there, a wash-dry finish is added to further emphasize the fabric's softness and washed-out shape, resulting in a natural feel. It's a refreshingly cool fabric perfect for summer, but with a high thread count and dense weave, you'll be surprised by the high quality of this linen the more you use it. With its crepe-like texture, natural wrinkles, and a softness and character that only deepens with wear, this linen fabric lets you experience a quality that quietly sets it apart.

Linen is convenient and stylish for everyday use, but as we've mentioned, it can also look refined and elegant depending on the texture and the shape of the garment. There's still more linen we'd like to introduce that we feel captures "summer-ness."

Linen Jersey Long Gilet

You might wonder why a gilet is being featured in a piece about dresses, but the gilet—something between a vest, a cardigan, and outerwear—is an all-purpose piece that, when the front buttons are fastened, can be worn just like a summer dress. This Linen Jersey Long Gilet from Vlas Blomme features a cut-and-sew fabric made of 100% linen.

This popular linen jersey fabric, an original of Vlas Blomme, began with visits to producers in Belgium to develop an original Kortrijk linen. Compared to cotton, linen has been called "the most difficult yarn to work with, as stiff as wire and full of slubs and neps," and due to this difficulty, there had previously been no factories producing 100% linen cut-and-sew fabric, nor was such a fabric to be found on the market. So the Vlas Blomme factory introduced its own proprietary equipment and, by thoroughly understanding the characteristics of linen, arrived at a cut-and-sew fabric that expresses both the soft, skin-friendly comfort inherent to linen and high functionality at the same time.

Even a casual outfit of a T-shirt and denim takes on an elegant air with just the addition of the gilet. Here it's paired with a clutch bag and wedge-heel sandals for a feminine coordination. The drape of the linen jersey fabric is used to full effect, creating beautiful folds.

This is a linen dress from fog linen work. It can be used as a nightshirt, loungewear, or pajamas, but it also has details that let it work as one-mile wear for a quick errand. We've prepared it in two colors so it pairs nicely whether worn with leggings or pants underneath: a natural shade that suits linen well, and a gray-white stripe pattern with thin stripes on a gray fabric.

Linen Dresses: What Should You Watch Out for in Care?

Linen is a durable material. Here are some tips to help it serve you well for a long time.

・Washing

Hand-washing is best. (ZUTTO recommends hand-washing our linen dresses.) If machine washing is acceptable, we recommend choosing the "hand wash" setting. Since color transfer is possible during the first few washes, avoid washing with other items. Be careful with spin-drying: if the spin cycle runs too long, linen will develop distinctively strong wrinkles. Hang the garment while it's still slightly dripping and let it air-dry in the shade. By the time it dries, the wrinkles will have softened and you'll be able to enjoy linen's distinctive texture.

・About Ironing

If you want a crisp look, ironing is a good option (please check the care label for each garment). Iron while the fabric is still slightly damp, or lightly mist it with water as you go. Ironing too firmly can leave a shine, so if you're concerned, use a pressing cloth.
