Things We Grow to Love — Azmaya's Rice Bin (Komebitsu) —
This time, we're featuring a kome-bitsu (rice storage container) by Azumaya. Its form, free of any rounded edges, conveys an almost dignified beauty. As for why kiri (paulownia wood) is so well suited to storing rice, it's said that the natural properties of kiri have antiseptic and insect-repelling effects, protecting rice firmly from pests and mold.
