【ZUTTO Custom Order】The refined luster created by roiro (mirror-polished lacquer) finishing. Urushi (Japanese lacquer) earrings, carefully built up one coat at a time.
Over a piece that has already received its final coat, a layer of ki-urushi (raw lacquer) is applied, left to dry, and then polished by hand—without any tools—to bring out its luster. This is the technique known as "roiro," the finishing process of Wajima-nuri (Wajima lacquerware). It is this roiro process that gives Masui Aya's hon-kanshitsu (solid lacquer craft) accessories their soft, gentle sheen. This time, she has created new earrings especially for ZUTTO.
